Great news for the Vindolanda Trust who have secured a £1.3m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The grant will be used to create the ‘Unlocking Vindolanda’s Wooden Underworld’ project, an extension containing special display cases to best preserve significant pieces of the wooden Roman artefacts not yet seen by the public.
Manning Elliott have been involved with the design for this exciting new gallery and activity room which will show the incredible survival story of the collection – from the science behind how they lasted two millennia to their conservation and the research that is uncovering their origins. Construction is due to start this summer with the opening planned for late spring 2018.
