Progress Update - Private Dwelling, Helton
For the last couple of months we have been overseeing works to a private dwelling Helton, just within the Lake District National Park. We have worked on the dwelling since its inception when the clients contacted us to help them completely remodel and refurbish their new home. What was once a series of seventeenth century cottages had at some point in the building's history been combined into a single dwelling with multiple staircases, low doorways and an ill-thought out layout that did not suit the new owners. We have worked closely with our clients to propose a new layout, removing redundant staircases and create a new route through the building making better use of existing spaces, improving daylight and views over the garden and the fields beyond.
As with any historic building there have been many unforseen challenges to overcome, poor conditions including rot and historic modifciations that have been made that need to be removed or made safe. The principal contractor has dealt with these challenges and with the support of Kingmoor Consulting Structural Engineers we have been able to begin to restore the building and bring our proposals to life. The works will be handed back to the clients to allow their own kitchen and bathroom fitters to finish the fit out and return this beautful historic building to being a beautiful home.
With so many big and exciting projects in the office this small refurbishment project is set to be one of our most exciting upon its completion and we look forward to starting new refurbishment projects we have lined up in the coming months.
