It has been great to see this private house extension come together since our initial sketches back in 2015.
On a tricky sloping site within the grounds of a beautiful Victorian home in Penrith, we were given the task of coming up with a new room connecting the existing house with the garden.
The area available was constrained due to the proximity of a beautiful Japanese Maple tree.
The extension was designed to maximise views across the garden and to frame views of the Lakeland Fells.
While the scale and profile of the extension is reminiscent of Victorian greenhouses and orangeries, we have used a modern wood and steel primary structure with aluminium and glass facade that is uncompromisingly contemporary.
The clients bought into the concept from day one and are very happy living in it now.
The contractor for the project was Shaun Marston Building Management Ltd, to whom we are very grateful for his careful coordination to bring this together.
